Point McKay is in the north-west quadrant of Calgary consisting of mostly townhouse style homes and a high rise apartment building type. It is bounded to the north by Bowness Road and to the south by the Bow River. Edworthy Park is located across the river, and is connected by a bridge to Point Mckay.

There is plenty of green space on the steep slope of the North Hill, a toboggan run off University Drive, and another across the Bow River in. There are fitness facilities at Foothills Athletic Park, just north of 16th Avenue, including and indoor ice arena, an indoor swimming pool, and soccer pitches. Communities of Parkdale, St.Andrews and West Hillhurst to the east are all accessible to and from Point McKay.
